Replacement of ceramic laminates veneers after biologic, adhesive and aesthetic failure: case report

Relato de Caso

Ceramic laminated veneers (CLV) are ultraconservative indirect aesthetic restorations that requires minimal or no enamel preparation with minimum thickness (ranging from 0.2 to 0.5 mm). They are capable of reproducing the aspects of the natural teeth and their clinical longevity is greatly determined by the bond strength formed among the triad: tooth surface, luting cement and porcelain veneers. Therefore, this clinical case reports the replacements of unsatisfactory ceramic laminates after 7 years of clinical service. Initially, photograph documentation were taken and impressions were...

In this edition of the Highlights section, we will address a fundamentally important topic about adhesive and restorative procedures sucess, the Photopolymerization. We are a dependent “LED” generation, since most of the procedures that we commonly perform, regardless of the clinical area, depends on some type of light source for the polymerization of materials.

What is the influence of the design of the equipment in the polymerization of resin materials?

Power, emission spectrum and light beam profile are important factors related to the light emitted by light curing units and must be considered when choosing a light curing unit.1 Besides that, there are equipment made with different materials, shapes and sizes. Therefore, one should also consider factors related to the equipment’s design: shape/angle and size of the light tips.

In vitro study on the color change of tooth enamel bleached with violet LED

Introduction: Tooth bleaching is a procedure very requested in dental offices, stimulating constant research for new products and technologies. This study aimed to evaluated in vitro the color change of tooth enamel bleached with violet LED associated or not with hydrogen peroxide gel. Methods: 48 fragments of bovine teeth (n=12), were sectioned (5x5x3 mm), flattened, and polished. The specimens were stained in 20ml of coffee, which was replaced every 24h for 7 days. The experimental groups...

Prosthetic oral rehabilitation using zirconia in the infrastructure of metalfree crowns: case report

Fixed partial dentures represent an alternative for oral rehabilitation, combining aesthetics and function. The need for better mechanical properties of ceramic materials led to the introduction of zirconia in Dentistry. The objective of this study was to present a clinical case of oral rehabilitation with single and multiple anterior and posterior fixed prostheses, demonstrating the applicability of zirconia as an aesthetic, functional and resistant material for infrastructure and...

Evaluation of light-curing units tips used in the clinic of a dental schoo

Introduction: Composite resins are operatordependent materials and hence LED-dependent. There are many types of LEDs available on the market, so knowledge of emitted irradiance and equipment components is critical to maintaining the quality of adhesive restorations. The lightconducting tip, depending on the curing light, may be transparent or dark and may change the radiance of the device when in contact with impurities, when cracked and / or fractured. Objective: To evaluate the curing tips...
